ABOUT CHRYSALIS

Chrysalis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for individuals experiencing homelessness or financial barriers by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment. Their philosophy is that a steady job is a key step in a person’s transition out of poverty and onto a pathway to self-sufficiency.

Chrysalis’ core employment services are designed to meet clients where they are and support them during every phase of their self-directed job search. Since 1984, Chrysalis has served more than 66,000 low-income and homeless individuals. Chrysalis operates its program through five locations in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Chrysalis Enterprises (CE) is a transitional jobs program for clients who may be facing more significant barriers to getting a job. This program helps get clients working more quickly, earning a paycheck, building confidence, and developing skills that will enable them to secure and retain long-term employment.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager, Staffing is responsible for the day-to-day operations of an alternative staffing agency social enterprise. Working closely with staff within Chrysalis Enterprises as well as within Client Services (e.g. case managers), this position has an operations role to meet business objectives and a direct service role to meet programmatic objectives.

The position requires a strong work ethic, knowledge of labor regulations, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Human Resources practices. The ideal candidate will possess excellent strategic thinking, communications, organizational and interpersonal skills.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service & Regulations

  • Deliver consistently high levels of customer service to all customers, business owners, and other stakeholders, ensuring that we meet or exceed all contractual obligations.
  • Identify and respond to service issues quickly and professionally, anticipating needs proactively.
  • Grow the use of services within existing accounts and quickly create rapport with representatives on new accounts.

Operations

  • Work closely with CE team to identify process improvements, safe working practices and opportunities for growth.
  • Ensure safety of all workers so that work is performed in compliance with OSHA standards and industry best practices.
  • Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and forms for Chrysalis Staffing that are consistent with established CE standards.
  • Ensure all worker timecards are submitted accurately, on time, and fully completed.
  • Interview, hire, train, and place temporary Staffing clients out of four offices: Downtown LA, Santa Monica, the San Fernando Valley, and Orange County
  • Indirectly manage Chrysalis’ transitional workforce to meet customer and programmatic goals.

Client Support

  • Apply HR policies and guidelines consistently, using discretion.
  • Coach clients on behavioral and performance issues and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Document all client conversations and communicate any concerns regarding performance and personal struggles immediately to the Employment Specialist/Site Director, and Human Resources.
  • Maintain regular communication with client workers to provide appropriate support, meaningful feedback, advice, and mentorship.
  • Balance the need of the social enterprise with the needs of Chrysalis clients.
  • Act as liaison between Client Services and Chrysalis Enterprises.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in program delivery, administrative duties, and/or customer service.
  • Bachelor’s degree or 3 – 4 years of business and/or social service experience.
  • Demonstrated organization and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to coach and mentor CE workers.
  • Must be able to relate to and work well with teammates, customers, and Chrysalis’ client population.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employment practices.
  • Willing to be on-call 24/7 and work flexible hours depending on business needs.
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative.
  • Strong computer skills required, including proficiency in internet research, Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs, and willing to learn other applications as needed.
